Unconditional Love is in my estimation the most important ideal to strive for in life. I'm reading a wonderful book entitled 'The Kingdom of God is Within You' by Leo Tolstoy. It's a book which inspired Gandhi's non-violent resistance movement. In it, Tolstoy advises against dumbing down our ideal in response to a lack of faith in our capacity to achieve it. He rather inspires us to uphold the ideal of loving unconditionally even if we fall short time and time again. This is preferred to continually achieving a diluted goal and never getting past loving with limitations. This reminds me of what a nutritionist/healer once said to me: "A balanced diet is not half junk food and half nutritious food." So when it comes to opening your heart, aim to go all the way. If you fail, try again and again and again, and in the process avoid judging or shaming yourself. The commitment to make the continued effort on love's behalf, is half the victory. It's up to all of us to uplift the planet by striving endlessly to Love without reserve. As Neem Karoli Baba says: "If we cannot Love each other, we cannot achieve our goal."
